{"id":976,"date":"2020-08-27T01:18:40","date_gmt":"2020-08-26T17:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/?p=976"},"modified":"2020-10-17T12:05:30","modified_gmt":"2020-10-17T04:05:30","slug":"paramotors-30-nm-mode-c-ads-b","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/paramotors-30-nm-mode-c-ads-b\/","title":{"rendered":"Paramotors &#8211; 30 NM Mode C Veil &#038; ADS-B"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>How many people know about the 30 NM Mode C Veil &amp; ADS-B rules.&nbsp; I recently was asked and went back and double-checked to make sure I understood better&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/FAA-ADS-B-Requirements_0720.jpg?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-979\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/FAA-ADS-B-Requirements_0720.jpg?w=1500&amp;ssl=1 1500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/FAA-ADS-B-Requirements_0720.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/FAA-ADS-B-Requirements_0720.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.50xchallenge.info\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/FAA-ADS-B-Requirements_0720.jpg?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>Mode C Veil &amp; ADS-B rules<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a couple of reason&#8217;s why the new rules don&#8217;t apply to Paramotors (Powered Paragliders\/<em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Gliders<\/span><\/em>) which operate under FAR 103 given we are vehicles and not aircraft, however, it&#8217;s easiest to just refer to the ADS-B rule itself to explain to people who typically fly General Aviation and at airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rule is worth reading if you haven\u2019t.&nbsp; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?node=14:2.0.1.3.10#se14.2.91_1225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">14 CFR \u00a7 91.225<\/a> &#8211; Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out equipment and use).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we aren\u2019t certified aircraft and don\u2019t technically have electrical systems paramotors aren\u2019t required to have ADS-B and, as long as we stay below the B &amp; C airspace in G or E we can still operate within Mode C Veil 30 NM perimeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can refer to 14 CFR \u00a7 91.225 section d(2) &amp; e(1 &amp; 2) specifically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(d) After January 1, 2020, and unless otherwise authorized by ATC, no person may operate an aircraft in the following airspace unless the aircraft has equipment installed that meets the requirements in paragraph (b) of this section: <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(2) Except as provided for in paragraph (e) of this section, within 30 nautical miles of an airport listed in appendix D, section 1 to this part from the surface upward to 10,000 feet MSL;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(e) The requirements of paragraph (b) of this section do not apply to any <strong>aircraft that was not originally certificated with an electrical system, or that has not subsequently been certified with such a system installed, including <span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">balloons and gliders<\/span><\/strong>. These <strong>aircraft may conduct operations without ADS-B Out in the airspace specified in paragraphs (d)(2) and (d)(4) of this section.
