Illinois with Midwest Parajet

I arrived Tuesday afternoon after a few hour journey from Wisconsin and met up with Scott & Steve. After having a tour of their shop and hanger and the weather closing in I got situated with an electrical hookup and tucked in early for the evening as the rain came in.

Wednesday brought lots of rain and wind, but I was grateful for it as it gave me time to write the blogs and edit the videos for all the great places & people I had flown with in Wisconsin. If you haven’t read the stories including the one where I was air support for the police department, you might want to do so.

Thursday brought less rain but still strong winds. It was still good to finish up the work and post some social media and exchange stories and discussions about the paramotor industry. We goofed off, and instead went surfing. I can barely balance on the One Wheel, but now I’m surfing @Midwest Parajet.

Monitoring the weather showed our window was Friday morning between 08:00-11:00. Scott & Steve put the word out and bright and early the weather was perfect and several pilots arrived to fly.

Scott & Steve also offered to let me fly a BGD Luna 23m & one of the Parajets. I elected to fly the wing with my motor first and then give the motor a try after. I launched the wind really easily and very quickly did some low flyby’s, foot drags and even some light wingovers and found the wing very comfortable.

Not long after we did a cross country heading south past the refinery down to a lake. It really was a beautiful day and even got creatively close to some whitetail deer that were out for breakfast.

I soon found myself concerned about how much fuel I had and wondered if I was going to make it back. I trimmed out and picked a line that would give me a quick return but with plenty of options to land where I could be picked up. I was blown away with how fast the wing was and what had been a 40-minute trip out was a very quick 20-minute return with about 5-10 minutes of fuel remaining. As everyone knows the designs and colors of these wings are absolutely beautiful, but this fast speed was impressive and showed its ‘flight color’ as a cross-country wing.

After landing I got to fly the Parajet with the same engine as on my frame, a Moster 185 and used the same wing. I don’t fly a right throttle very often, so that took a little getting used to along with the tongue differences, but once again was quickly in the air and loved nipping around. I even tried to have my drone follow me for some unique footage, but sadly it didn’t pan out.

Every time the glider was kited I couldn’t help myself and took more and more pictures, so Instagram and Facebook are now covered with loads of pictures of this great wing. Hopefully, you will enjoy the video as well.
