State 40 Wisconsin & EAA

My 300-mile journey from Traverse City MI to Marc Amenson’s cabin felt long but was extremely beautiful and scenic. The one hour time change also felt weird, but I was soon settled and ate dinner before I tucked in early as the sun met the horizon for some much-needed rest after a long day which had started at 4 am.

The next day I headed down to Marc’s home in Green Bay to get situated a little closer to Oshkosh where the plan was to do an interview with EAA. I had a great afternoon watching Marc and his kids playing Badminton, target shooting, and generally just horsing around. I’m certain a time his kids will cherish one day when looking back at these times.

Friday I made my way down to Oshkosh and met with Jon Eisele at EAA (connected by Justin Fox) where we eagerly watched the weather. In the meantime, I toured the grounds.

Around 5 pm Jon called me and said the weather might open and that I should meet him at Pioneer Airfield where we would do the interview with Christina. While I have done several interviews on this trip, I definitely felt some pressure and flubbed a few talking points that required some additional takes. All the cool stories came out after the interview and it was a pity we hadn’t kept the camera rolling and recorded them. None the less it went well.

The cherry on the top came after the interview. You are going to have to come back and read a future blog to get the story.
